About Me!
Stephanie Peborde Burke has been a science educator for over 16 years with experience teaching middle school and high school. She previously taught 6th Grade Science at Fox Lane Middle School, and Science Research at Fox Lane and Yorktown High Schools. Last year she was the K-12 DICE (Design, Innovation, Creation, and Expression) Facilitator at the Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District where she ran the high school and middle school’s FabLab and supported K-12 teachers with experiential, hands-on learning in all content areas. This year, she brings her experience back to Bedford/Fox Lane as part of the leadership team, supporting K-12 teachers with STEAM and EdTech through coaching, co-teaching, and modeling active learning, interdisciplinary experiences, enrichment, and the NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards.
Dr. Burke has been involved with the Westchester and Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF) since its inception in 2001 and currently serves on its executive board as treasurer. She has also served on the leadership committee for the Westchester-Rockland Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (WR-JSHS) since 2014.
In May '23, she will be graduating with her Ed.D. in Educational Technology Leadership from New Jersey City University. This past March she defended her dissertation, The Impact of a High School Maker Education Program on Student Interest in STEM Careers: A Mixed Methods Study. She has also presented about Maker Education at SITE, NYSCATE 2018, and NYSCATE 2022.
Dr. Burke is a nature lover, birder, Geocacher, foodie, geek, and enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children. As a maker herself, she enjoys being creative through arts and crafts and a variety of media, including 3D designing and printing.
