The U.S. Department of Education has raised concerns that there will be an increase in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) jobs between the years 2010 and 2020.  Currently, not enough American students are pursuing these STEM fields.  In order to generate interest and prepare STEM-ready students for the future, many schools have created Makerspaces which can provide students the opportunity to access and experience many STEM-related activities.

This website was created to provide information to those interested in a Virtual Makerspace.  Traditional Makerspaces require materials, tools, arts and crafts, electronics, computers, and other technology.  A Virtual Makerspace can provide users with many of the same skills as a traditional Makerspace and avoid the need to purchase potentially expensive materials.  This website, instead, provides information and access to online resources and tools.  It's important to note that the information provided on this site is just a start.  There are plenty of more resources available on the web just waiting to be discovered.

A great model to keep in mind when working with Makerspaces of any kind.
